CareerWork$ is delighted to select Morissa Negale-Sackett, a June 2022 BankWork$ graduate from Goodwill of Colorado, as the fifth recipient of the Marc Hill Rising Star Award!

After a series of tragedies disrupted her life and left her caring for her family while dealing with personal loss and health challenges, Morissa needed a new career path. Determined not to give up on finding a career that could support her family, she pushed forward. Earlier this year, Morissa learned about the BankWork$ program at Goodwill of Colorado from the Center for Work Education and Employment (CWEE). She enrolled in Kelly Hargrove’s class, excelled as a BankWork$ participant, and accepted a job offer at a local financial institution shortly after graduation.

Earlier this week, after she attended Kelly’s class as an alumni speaker, Morissa was surprised by the CareerWork$ team on a virtual celebration to share the news of her selection as a Marc Hill Rising Star Award recipient. “I appreciate what Kelly and everyone at CareerWork$ have done to help me succeed. After everything I’ve been through, this means more than you can imagine,” said Morissa on the celebration call.

Beginning in Spring 2021, the Marc Hill Rising Star Award recognizes a graduate of our BankWork$ or CareerWork$ Medical program each quarter who has shown significant personal growth and transformation since the start of class. Each award recipient receives a certificate and cash award to enhance the beginning of their new career.

The award is part of CareerWork$ ongoing work to open doors to meaningful careers. It honors the life, work, and legacy of the late Marc Hill, an instructor of both the BankWork$ and CareerWork$ Ready programs with our partner YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish, who passed away in 2020. The lessons Marc shared with his students embody our values as an organization: respect, collaboration, equity, and inclusion.

In an interview with Goodwill of Colorado, Morissa reflected on the trajectory of her career. “Never stop reaching for your goals even when life takes a turn on you. When life may seem like it’s at the end, you are still alive and can reach your goals,” said Morissa.

From all of us at CareerWork$, congratulations, Morissa!
